2026 RITE OF SENDING
2026 – OCIA RITE OF SENDING/CALL TO CONTINUING CONVERSION AND RITE OF ELECTION/CALL TO CONTINUING CONVERSION
On Sunday, February 15, 2026, the Rite of Sending for the St. Jude OCIA Catechumens was officiated by Fr. Michael Baldwin, substituting for Fr. Fog. In addition, the Calling of Candidates to Continuing Conversion was witnessed by the congregation.
As part of the ceremony, the Catechumens, Kaylie Castellanos, her godparent, Adrianna McBeth and Hunter Waters, his godparent, Kaylee Waters, signed the Book of the Elect which was then presented to Bishop Kemme at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Church of the Magdalen for the Rite of Election.
Continuing with the 2nd Rite ceremony on February 15, Father Baldwin also called forth the St. Jude OCIA Candidates and their sponsors to celebrate their call to continuing conversion. The Candidates are Seth Dold, sponsor David Wall, Ronin Haag, sponsor Marsha Haag, and James Bennett, sponsor Leroy Pruitt.
Then on Saturday, February 21, 2026, Bishop Kemme celebrated the Rite of Election of Catechumens and the Calling of Candidates to Continuing Conversion at the Church of the Magdalen where each group was called to the altar. Kaylie, Hunter, Seth, Ronin and James were a part of 500+ people who, God-willing, will come into full communion with the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil.
Lora King took pictures for the celebration at St. Jude and Bishop Kemme was kind enough to let our group take pictures with him following the ceremony at Church of the Magdalen.
Please pray for the Elect, which is the name now given to our five participants, as they continue their faith journey to becoming Catholic.

ST. JUDE THE APOSTLE RELIC
On November 3, 2024, the relic of ST. JUDE THE APOSTLE was at St. Jude Catholic Church, Wichita, Kansas.
The Arm of ST. JUDE THE APOSTLE. Saint Jude, known as the Apostle of the Impossible, is revered for his unwavering dedication and steadfast faith. Millions have experienced his intercession in times of adversity and need.
A special Mass was offered at 2:00 pm with a collection that will be taken to support repairs to the shrine of St. Jude in Rome. After the Mass, the relic was displayed for public veneration from 3:00pm –8:00 pm. Fr. Carlos Martins is taking the St. Jude relic across North America to share in the story of ST. JUDE THE APOSTLE.
The most reliable ancient records identify the place of Saint Jude's martyrdom and burial as the city of Beirut. Sometime later, his body was transferred to Rome and placed in a crypt within the original Saint Peter's Basilica, completed by Emperor Constantine (in 333 AD). Today, his remains are in the left transept of the current Basilica (completed in 1626), below the main altar of Saint Joseph, within a tomb also holding the remains of the Apostle Simon. This resting place has become a popular destination for pilgrims who have a devotion to the Apostle of the Impossible.

2024 - RCIA Rite of Sending and Rite of Election
RCIA RITE OF SENDING AND RITE OF ELECTION 2024
If you were at the 8:30 AM Mass on Sunday, February 18, 2024, you were able to see an important ceremony for the RCIA Catechumens, Karyn Hoss, Harmony Hoss and Hart Hoss, as they received their Rite of Sending from Father Fog. Karyn and Maggie Gilles, standing in for Karyn’s godparent Theresa Guidry, Harmony and her godparent Virginia Snell, and Hart with his godparent Stephen Hoss, then came forward to sign the St. Jude Book of the Elect.
The Book of the Elect was then presented to Bishop Kemme at 3:00 PM that afternoon at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita, Kansas for the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion. This ceremony included 31 parishes from Wichita and the Wichita Diocese. Also attending were Diana Wolfe, Barb Koster, Harley Hoss, Hunter Hoss, Andrea Bonds and Phillip Bonds.
The RCIA class is now The Elect and will receive their Rites of Initiation-Baptism (if needed), Confirmation and Holy Eucharist- at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 8:00 PM. We ask the St. Jude Parish family to surround these RCIA participants with prayers, so that our entire church can accompany them and help lead them to a strong and personal relationship with Christ.
Thank you for your continued prayers.
2023 - RCIA CELEBRATES 1ST RITE
On November 12, 2023 at the 8:30 am mass, Fr. John Fogliasso (Fr. Fog) celebrated the Rite of Acceptance and Welcoming for the Catechumens and Candidates along with their sponsors.
They are Phillip Bonds, Sponsor Andrea Bonds; Harley Hoss, Sponsor Hunter Hoss; Hart Hoss, Sponsor Stephen Hoss; Karyn Hoss, Sponsor Theresa Guidry (Maggie Gilles standing in for Theresa); Maggie Gallardo, Sponsor Susan Hale; Harmony Hoss, Sponsor Virginia Snell; Tabitha Jefferson, Sponsor Barbara Koster; Tyler Jefferson, Sponsor Matthew Umbarger; and Vincent Gallardo, Sponsor Cory Kroupa.
After receiving the blessing of the senses from their sponsors, the catechumens and candidates received a cross and a bible from Fr. Fog, each of these items represent an important step in their continued journeys to learn what it means to be a follower of Christ.
November 12 was also the beginning of “Breaking Open the Word”, a part of the RCIA journey in which Fr. Fog dismisses the inquirers after his homily to meet with a facilitator to discuss the message found in the Sunday liturgy. To “Break Open” God’s Word has a twofold purpose: 1) to experience the content of the readings to help us to know God and 2) that this deeper friendship with God will propel us to live and act out these readings during the week.
We ask the St. Jude family to pray for these Catechumens and Candidates. Your prayers are powerful.
RCIA is a class for adults who are ready to learn more about the Catholic faith. The class meets on Sunday at 9:30 am in St. Theresa’s Room. For more information, contact Barb Koster, 210-2567.
