      2nd Semester - Music Performances


The Middle School Choir will perform at the annual choral festival at Bishop Carroll High School on Jan. 30th. They will rehearse with a guest conductor duruing the afternoon, perform a choral piece for the other schools in a showcase and finish the day in a concert performance of 200 students at 7:00 pm.

The annual St. Jude Talent and Art Show and Spring concert by by the Middle School classes will be on May 17, 2017 from 2:00 to 3:pm in the school gym. Forms needed to participate may be picked up in the music room or the office.

Please return the forms to Mrs. Michot by May 10th so the talent my be liusted and scheduled and the art work may be set up and exhibited.

Attention Youth Cantors !!!


             The next youth cantor mass will be on Saturday Apr. 8th at the 4:30 mass. You are welcome to come up front and help lead the singing and responses at mass.  Remember! Youth cantors are scheduled for the 2nd weekend of every month. The parish is very appreciative of this stewardship.

         National and State Standards in Music:

1. Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.

      a. demonstrated by singing confidently and competently in worship assemblies

       b. singing a basic repertoire of Catholic liturgical or traditional music

2. Performing on instruments, alone and with others.

       a. using instruments to accompany a worshipping assembly

       b. introducing the organ and a variety of sounds for worship

3. Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments.

    a. setting various Bible passages and liturgical responses to music

4. Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines.

    a. composing musci for use in liturgical worship

5. Reading and notating music.

      a. using worship repertoire as part of basic music reading curriculum

6. Listening to, analyzing and describing music.

     a. demonstrate competent listening during school and worship assemblies

       b. identify specific places within rites where music is proscribed and assign  appropriate music to places where listening.

8. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside  the arts.

    a. identify terms used in liturgical celebration and identify ways in which music is essential to the rites and rituals of the church

9. Understanding music history and culture.

    a. distinguish between liturgical music composed by contemporary composers and those of earlier periods as well as world cultures

     b. explain the effect of music on the worshipper and person at prayer with respect to melody, harmony, dynamics & other music qualities

    c. identify common elements of art, architecture, music and environment of worship

We will work on each of these standards during the year on every class level, kindergarten through eighth grade.
