Week of August 21-25, 2017

6th Grade: This week we have been looking at what it means to have a growth mindset and how having a growth mindset can help them grow academically and socially.  We have also been taking some pre-tests to see where we sit as an individual and as a class. They have also been working on their reading counts for this quarter.  Please ask your scholar about their due date and what genres they are focusing on this nine weeks.  If your scholar is going to be a participant of Battle of the Books, reading counts still pertains to them, but they will not need to worry about the genres as those books are picked a year in a advanced!

7th Grade: We have been taking some pre-tests to see what we remember from last year, what we already know that we will learn this year and where we need the extra assistance.  They have also been working on their reading counts for this quarter.  Please ask your scholar about their new reading counts format, the due dates, and what genres they are focusing on this nine weeks.

8th Grade: We have been setting up our interactive notebooks and getting them formatted.  We have also been taking some pre-tests to see what we remember from last year, what we already know that we will learn this year and where we need the extra assistance.  They have also been working on their reading counts for this quarter.  Please ask your scholar about their new reading counts format, the due dates, and what genres they are focusing on this nine weeks.

Week of August 14-18, 2017

Welcome Back!

This week we are focusing on classroom procedures and expectations.  Your scholar will have various forms that will need to be signed and returned to me.

1. Stewardship: 7th Grade only

2. Syllabus: All grades

3. Reading Counts: All grades

4. Release form for my National Certification Process: All grades

Homework: I have asked that each scholar make it to the public library this weekend to find a book in one of the assigned genres for this quarters reading counts.  Each grade level will focus on one fiction genre and one Non-fiction genre.  Ask your scholar what genres their class will be focusing on!
